I’d rather not defend Bernie Sanders so I’m not going to until I need to, which won’t come until after the primary in South Carolina and the following Super Tuesday.

Meanwhile, I think it’s important to say we do not know what cannot know until the moment arrives in which knowing is possible. In other words, everyone saying he’s the frontrunner can’t know yet. Same thing for everyone saying he can’t beat Trump.

Yes, there are pundits aplenty who are paid top dollar to state authoritatively that America will never elect a “socialist” president. Sure, they have some reasons to be skeptical. But being skeptical about a thing and knowing a thing are two separate things until the moment in which knowing a thing has arrived. And it hasn’t.

Today’s edition of the Editorial Board is an important part of its mission—to be a check, in a small and humble way, on the plague of misinformation out there.
