I was feeling pretty low when I lost my day-job last month. I wasn’t all that hopeful either. No matter what sort of writing I had done over the last 20 years, I’ve always maintained a steady income.

Hope returned after I asked you for help. There was an overwhelming response. About 50 people became dedicated and paying subscribers in a week. That’s like 500 percent more than usual!

There’s a long way to go before I’ll make up for lost income. But that week really opened my eyes.

There are people in this world, no matter how cynical and craven it may seem, who want to do good for its own sake, even if it’s just helping a New Havener speaking in plain English for the common good.

I’ve always been grateful for anyone who said, in essence, here’s a little something. Carry on, son.

But this year, I feel even more gratitude. Many thanks to everyone supporting the Editorial Board!

Am grateful for your posts, John! Their long-term perspective really helps me to weather the daily cyclones issuing from the WH. May you have a peaceful Thanksgiving.
