I think people who have experienced some kind of trauma (women in abusive marriages, for instance) understand the president is ways other people do not.

They can see that Donald Trump doesn’t need to understand the new coronavirus, because understanding it isn’t going to influence him one way or another from doing whatever he wants to do. (For instance, shaking hands with faithful supporters!)

He’s going to do whatever he wants to do, because there is no authority higher than, or independent from, his ego and self-interest. While other people concern themselves with, say, obeying the law, he does no such thing. He can’t break the law. He is the law.

Women who have experienced abuse of power can see what the political class, the Washington press corps and Wall Street have been unwilling to see. They have been unwilling to see it, but now they have no choice but to see. The coronavirus is here.

And not even this president is immune to his fascist behavior.
